Last weekend we attended a winterfest celebration in Port Clinton OH, and had the pleasure of staying at The Island House Hotel!
We have wanted to give this place a try for quite sometime and just never really found occasion to go. This weekend gave us the perfect opportunity as everything was extremely busy all around Port Clinton!
This is a charming old Hotel currently under some renovation. It was originally built in 1870, and was a lavish hotel for it’s day. Sadly it burnt down in 1882 but due to it’s popularity and iconic reputation for luxury it was quickly reconstructed and reopened in 1886! It has hosted sitting presidents, athletes and celebrities! It is perfectly located near downtown, the beaches, fisheries, bars, and ferries to the lake erie islands!
As far as our experience, we had an excellent stay. The staff was prompt and friendly, the room although small was very clean, and well appointed. We had a coffee maker, and refrigerator always a nice perk! A little thin walled but it’s a very old building and this is to be expected.
They do have a rather grand staircase to access the floors above and small elevator if needing handicapped access.
“The Affair” is attached to the hotel a restaurant and bar. It appeared closed for the season during our stay but having been there before during the summer months I can attest to fact that it’s a lovely place to visit as well!
All and all a nice stay! I would recommend this if you’re looking for an inexpensive spot to rest awhile and enjoy Port Clinton!
