Happy National Candy Corn Day!
Candy Corn was created by the Wunderle Candy Company in the late 1800s. It’s original colors were yellow, orange and white, but it has become popular in other colors as well.
This confection was originally made by hand using corn syrup, sugar, water, marshmallows, fondant and carnauba wax (a wax made from the leaves of a palm tree), but it is now produced using machines however original ingredients are still used in the recipe.
Here are some more fun candy corn inspired treat ideas! Enjoy!
This time of year is one of my favorites! I thoroughly enjoy the changing weather, the beautiful fall colors in Michigan, and it’s the time of year when I throw one of my biggest celebrations of the season our annual Halloween Party!
This past weekend months of preparation and planning came together in a fun night full of dancing and laughter with some of my very best friends, and neighbors! Each year we choose a party theme, and decorate our pole barn accordingly. This years theme was Masquerade! I really thought this theme was going to be easier to plan for than what it was. I found it challenging to decorate for… I ended up with a gold black and purple color scheme, lots and lots of balloons… I’m still winded…, and a few decorative mask centerpieces. Oh and I found a fabulous 9ft wide mask on Amazon that was a perfect match to our colors and theme!
I cooked a big crock pot of chili, made apple crisp and some cobb salad dip with crackers, many of our friends brought along passing dishes, and we had plenty to share!
We held a costume/ mask contest this year for the first time… I have no idea how it is I hold an annual Halloween party and never had a costume contest but we remedied that situation this year! Our big winner was Kasey with her Adams Family inspired look! It really was impressive!
We danced the night away, and paid for it the next day witha bit of a headache…perhaps not so much from dancing as from jello shots but well worth this great time! Hope you’re enjoying the Fall season and spreading a little Halloween Cheer, Happy Halloween!
I hate when I fall behind and have to blog in updates… I haven’t posted in a couple months as things have been crazy as usual so here it is the big update.
We hosted our annual Halloween party and it was a blast! We had a steampunk carnival theme and I was the ring master. A lot of fun was had by all and next year’s theme…drumroll…masquerade! I can’t wait! Here are a few pics from this year’s party!
Once past Halloween, my bff Amber and I had a couple of bff craft nights, we made college football themed door wreaths and in gearing up for Christmas we made gingerbread houses!
The garden center has been busy too! We hand make a huge selection of holiday wreaths and decorations! It’s my favorite season because the creative limitations are lifted!
I’m now in full blown Christmas panic trying to get everything finished before Christmas next Monday! Hope you’ve all had a fantastic holiday season! Here is a picture of the front porch decor, our visit to the community Christmas tree lighting, Nite Lights, and of course my Christmas tree. I’ll be posting more over the next several months! Happy Holidays everyone!
Halloween has always been one of my favorite calendar days. I raised my kids with the idea that Halloween was something really special. We would dress up, decorate the house inside and out. When they were little we travelled to see family and friends all dressed up and as they got older we began to host get togethers at the house where we could all have a little festive fun. Well, as the years have gone on our Halloween party has gotten a little bigger each year… Last year was the biggest yet and here’s the fun part there is usually a fun theme to play around with!
We’ve done Alice in Wonderland, my BFF and I went as Big Alice and Little Alice lol.
And last year’s party was Great Gatsby style with lots of bling!
This year we took to social media and let the people vote! So we are now planning a Steampunk Carnival/Circus themed Halloween Extravaganza! I am transforming the barn into a dark circus tent with lots of hidden surprises! The decorations have started to roll in and we begin the process of transforming the barn this weekend! Guests are asked to bring their own drinks and a passing dish (this is an adult atmosphere so no little ones this time). We’ll have some fun games, and the DJ is confirmed! As always all are welcome!
See you at our dark funky fun carnival friends, festivities take place October 21st!
