Kitchen Renovation

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then you already know that we are in the process of renovating our kitchen.  Although quite  project we are doing all of the renovations on our own DIY style. Thankfully my husband is a licensed contractor and does amazing work.

So here’s the story… we moved into our home 13 years ago. When we moved in the kitchen was original to when the house was built in the 50’s.  We made cosmetic upgrades to get us by but the original cabinetry (handmade plywood) and chipped Formica counters stayed.

As much as I would like to go crazy and design and build my dream kitchen, this is not our forever home, and so we’re sticking to a $5000 budget. That’s $5000 to do EVERYTHING! Cabinets, Counter tops, Floors, Backsplash, Lighting… EVERYTHING! It’s kind of daunting to fit everything in that budget!

So Here is the plan…

BEFORE

Kitchen Before

We have already removed the upper cabinets, and the trim you see at the ceiling has now also been removed. We are keeping some of our appliances and since they are stainless steel this works out perfectly. We will invest in a new Microwave hood vent for over the stove.

We are making the risky decision not to re-install upper cabinets. This is a cost savings, and I feel like it’s kind of a trendy design choice. I also had a mini heart attack at the thought of losing all of that storage, but I think we came up with a way to resolve that and stay on budget… We’re incorporating some open shelving near the sink for glass ware and a few other dishes that we use a lot.

We are installing a stock cream colored cabinet from Lowe’s from the Caspian Collection… They look like this…

I like the fact that they aren’t super white… I was really afraid to go too stark white as this is a LARGE room. Once lowers are installed we found a stock black Formica counter top, stainless steel sink, beautiful stone back splash, and vinyl plank flooring. We’re installing a new soffit with can lighting, and pendants over the counter top. The finished project should look very similar to this… although this is a crude cut and paste rendering that I did myself lol!!

Kitchen After Rendering

I’m ready to see the finished project already, but we have a long way to go… it will be interesting to see how close we get to my conceptualized drawings! Wish us luck!!

Let me know your thoughts on our idea to eliminate uppers! I’m still nervous! Thanks for reading!

Introducing the 2018 Pantone Color of the Year! ~ Ultra Violet

I love when the Pantone color of the year is introduced and my style feeds start to fill up with inspiring uses of the new trend setting colors!

This years Pantone Color of the Year is Ultra- Violet and I am loving it!

Color of the Year

This color could be viewed as a seemingly difficult color to introduce but it’s actually really fun and easy! You can go for the gusto and introduce it as a primary wall or accent wall color.  I utilized a very similar color when redecorating a medical office that I worked for at one time. Needless to say it met some skepticism until it was on the wall, and wow what an impact. This color has a soothing effect, and has an unexpected appeal.

Ultra Violet Wall

Not sure about painting an entire room purple? No problem! Try adding accent pieces, a vase, a chair, maybe just a picture frame. You’ll be amazed!

Ultra Violet Furniture

Is you’re interior not ready for a splash of color try your garden! Ultra-violet is a prevalent floral color! Go for a classic Nikko Blue Hydrangea, or purple campanula in your perennial gardens and purple verbena, and night sky petunias in your patio pots and hanging baskets!

There are a ton of ways to make this year’s Ultra-violet influence part of your indoor and outdoor decor. How will you use it?

Shiplap in the Kitchen

I was browsing through various internet home decor sites today and I came across “Funky Junk Interiors”. This kitchen design grabbed my attention right away! I love the rustic flare of the ship lap and the old style crate signage in this design.

I think I would have gone with a subway tile on the remaining exposed wall for a little added dimension, but I really like the overall take. What do you think? Yay or Nay on the ship lap kitchen?

Lighting up a room

Sometimes all you need is a great light fixture to add something special to a room. @kathykuohome shared this gorgeous pic on instagram and I keep noticing so many great things about it.

The subtle patterns mixed in, the pops of green color, and great art! But I really love this chandelier! Light fixtures can make all the difference ina room, and when remodeling or redesigning consider the impact they can have! They can make a small room seem large and bright or bring down the scale to make a warm cozy spot in your home. This one just really sings to me! What do you think?

Glorious wall covering!

I am beyond excited that wallpaper is making a comeback! You heard me right WALLPAPER!

I love the texture that it adds and the colors…but I especially love the newer large prints. Like this one featured on instagram by @d.marieinteriors.

The soft pale pinks and grays, go perfectly together and really create a huge impact in this room. Just stunning! Have you looked at wallpaper recently? What are your favorite new designs?

Let’s Talk About Something Pinteresting

Did you ever sit back and look at your Pinterest boards and wonder if this is a true reflection of you as a person…your likes, loves, and humor all on display.

I hadn’t really thought much about it to be honest until I started this new blog adventure. Then I suddenly realized that Pinterest is not just mindless entertainment while I wait at the doctors office, or in a few quiet moments on the sofa at the end of the night. It really is a pretty good depiction of me as a person when I step back and look at it as a big picture…

Here’s me in Pinterest form…I’m a well dressed middle aged woman, who likes fine jewelry…and I would be considered a bit of an old soul.

I love cooking and baking…and apparently drinking as I have 184 pins on just cocktails!

My home is a mix of mid century modern furniture and vintage reclaimed touches…I’m hyper focus on wall treatments, Yup! A whole category just for the walls…

I’m focused on my business even in my personal time as I set up a “garden center” board too! And, yes the business has it’s own Pinterest page…this is just over kill lol 😄

I couldn’t get away with out a page for parties and entertaining a favorite hobby of mine for sure!

And to top it all off a healthy dose of sarcastic humor!

It’s pretty entertaining to sit back and evaluate your life based on your social media activity! Give it a try and see what Pinterest has to say about you! And if you wanna know more about me follow me on Pinterest! Links below!!
